I was thinking of the same thing. I might add that if it is sunrise or sunset at high altitude where a the plane is, the the bright red/orange from the sunset/rise would reflect off the plane and appear to an observer on the ground who is in the dark, as a "fireball" or a "glowing orb". Then as the plane moves and the angle of incidence changes, the reflection could apear to be changeing in intensity, of pulsated. This could realy cause even a sincere obsever to think that they were seeing something, that could not be terrestial.
