Thanks for these photos. Photo #2 looks closer to what I see. This photo appears to have had two planes emitting these short contrails.

When I see these types of contrails, the first thing that I think of is whether they're testing the atmosphere for chemical and/or neuclar residue -- thinking back to above the ground testing. Interesting...
