The best way to stay clear of the border when hiking up Hawkeye Hill is to approach from the parking area, about 1/4 mile before the signs. Park there (lock your car!) and hike towards the top of the hill.

Those who don't know what hill we are talking about probably should not be up there without a guide anyway.
