The spyware waits until you click on a field so it knows it has "eyeballs". In Rose-Chans case, the spyware senses the "post reply" button has been hit, hence a live human is waiting to be spammed.

If you run Internet Explorer, some of these program hide in the "objects". Click on tools, then internet options, then settings, then view objects. Look at the list of programs for something suspicious. [Legit objects will be from microsoft, perhaps macromedia if you run shockwave.etc.] I just found some spyware called the "sex tracker money tracker" on mine, and I swear I haven't been any place bad. And that's not my Swedish vacuum pump either.
