Boeing Sees R&D Funding Boost 2/20/2001

The head of the Phantom Works, Boeing's research and
development arm, sees additional funding for military
science and technology under the Bush administration,
Janes.com reported. Hypersonic flight, unmanned air
vehicles and improved information technologies were
seen as focal points for R&D.
George Muellner, VP and general manager of the Phantom
Works, noted that the USAF's Air Combat Command is
examining architectures that will support an integrated network of robotic aircraft working in
tandem with surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft.
In wide-ranging comments, Muellner also noted that
Boeing designers are promoting the blended-wing-body
(BWB) design as a possible solution for airborne
tanker needs.
