Joerg--Maps & GPS page

Thanks first for a great site.

I'd like to make some suggestions for additions to the Maps & GPS pages.

Topowest.com is a good place for FREE downloads of USGS topo maps. I've downloaded the entire Lincoln County but it took hours even on high speed. Anyone seriously interested can buy all the Nevada 7.5 minute maps on a CD for $80. It has other nice features like lists of Nevada features. I found out where the Seeps near Rachel are by looking up Seeps on Topowest's map features page. It told me exactly which quad to look at. The maps come in .png format and you may need to change the filename extension to .png. Also be sure to choose the "view at 125 dpi" option. Some versions of Windows can view them directly. Others may need a png viewer.

For fans of Terraserver, there is a FREE program called USAPhotoMaps which goes to Terraserver for you (after you enter a starting set of coordinates) and downloads the pictures and pastes them together. The results are zoomable and I haven't found a limit yet on how big the resulting picture can be. It can also fade between the topo and photo maps. Your GPS can be hooked in to upload or download waypoints, routes, etc. It works really well. It's at http://jdmcox.com

Anyway I think both of these links would be useful for the Maps & GPS page.
