If you think about it, how often does the USAF even talk about the TTR? This incident forced them to come up with some sort of cover story about the "classified" airstrip and the TTR. So now we know the TTR is involved in support of the Air Force's flight test program. Not that we know anything new, but the current TTR story is that they are involved in missile testing. And [Shocker!], we know there is a classified airstrip in the Nellis ranges.

Note that unitl this crash happened, all that was known to the general public was that the Janet planes left from Vegas and in theory went to the TTR, though we know about half go to Groom Lake. However, other than looking at flight plans, there has never been evidence that Janet planes left Groom Lake and flew to the TTR. On the Groom clearance and tower frequencies, the TTR is never mentioned, but rather the destination "station 9" is used. [I could be off on the number.] Also note that this flight is "scheduled", meaning such flights happen on a regular basis.

Lastly, why didn't the USAF lie and say some other airstrip was used, such as Pahute Mesa? I doubt any federal air traffic controller would go public and contest the origin of the flight. An interesting question is how much of the airspace do the civilian employees at the North Las Vegas airport see? The government has less control over the NLV employees.
