The border patrol uses the same EMIDS detector system that Groom Lake uses. I've verified this by looking at the quote requests. [EMIDS has only one source, so the request for quotes is not exactly worded as such, but you get the idea.] So in theory, with enough sensors, nobody would get across the border undetected. Of course, there would have to be a desire to stop all border crossings. The assumption must be that some dude on foot can't carry enough to be dangerous, so the effort is to stop air traffic, hence the anti-narco flights and truck searches.
