I don't think very many people will try to use ExpertGPS off-line, i.e. on a HD database, unless they have a realy powerful notebook computer. That said, QuakeMap should do the job. Expertgps is maybe a third better but at 7x the cost.

The 20ft contour on the topo really beats the current generation Garmin equipment. I've noticed gps76, targeted to the marine market, has 115Mbytes of storage. This may filter down to the hiking GPSs, but Garmin needs to improve the topos as well.

I made a DVD of most of the topo and image data around the Groom ranges for use with Expertgps. It's about 2.2Gbytes, probably due to the fact that much of the image data is blank due to the presence of some military base. I'm sure if all the restricted imagery were present, it would exceed the capacity of a DVD.
