On 13 january 2004, a USAF Test Pilot School Blanik L-23 glider was flown at 10,000 feet near Edwrads North Base to take sonic boom measurements below the modified F-5E Shaped Sonic Boom Demonstrator (SSBD) aircraft. The glider carried a microphone and pressure transducer to take readings above the turbulent air, closer to the groud, that can affect the shock wave's signature.
