If you look at this frame, I centered it at the spot where you finish crawling along one side of the mountain and cross over to the other. That is, the spot where you begin to descend a bit to reach the camp on the false summit. I agree it is really hard to tell, so I'm only about 70% sure this is the spot.

You can see a dominant rocky ridge of sorts heading up the hill, roughly centered at 37.34354 -115.3603. I think that is the path you take when you want to avoid most of the shale, but it takes you way out of the way. You then walk that ridgeline eastward to get back on the mail trail. There is a camp on that ridge, so I think some people do take that trail.
