I thought these things had gone away a long time ago. I saw a few of them while I was a GI stationed out in the Mojave Desert during the late 1980s and have not seen any for a long time since.

But on a forum I frequent, a member from Carson City, NV posted three photos of a classic doughnut-on-a-rope contrail that was taken just this evening.
