If memory serves, not only has the C-130 been used as a platform to deliever BLU-82's (and actually they didn't dump them out the back - a parachute was deployed from the rear of the bomb and the Hercules flew out from underneath it - I have talked to an Air Commando that has dropped them), but a Minutemen was deployed out the back of a C-5 and ignited as well. It was only a test but it showed that the Military has considered using transports as weapons' delivery platforms. There was also some talk about using large transports as launchers for TLAMs; a 747 filled with Tomahawks and rotary launchers could do a LOT of damage. Ever since the Flying Tigers in China dropped bombs out of a DC-2 has the idea that transports could be used has been mulled around. Not only has the C-130 been rigged for combat but during the Vietnam War C-47's, C-123's, C-119's were also modified with offensive weapons. Good concept though and good idea.
