The J/F-10 does not use an engine similar to that on
the Mig-29. The RD-33 is just much too feeble to be
used on a 4th gen. single engine fighter. The J-10
uses the Al-31FN, a variant of the one used on the Su-27,
and generally considered better than the PW1120 for
better or worse.

The J-10/Su-27(30) tandem for China is somewhat
similar to the F-16/F-15 tandem for the US.
