I know a lady that has a PhD in Astro Physics and she knows many people at NASA and is a long time shuttle/rocket guru. I asked her about the Columbia and right away she said it was a tile issue. This thing about solar winds, meteorites and space junk is out of the question. She said that if a tile were loose on the shuttle, the force of the reentry and the heat would act like a blowtorch in between the tiles, severing the wing right off but not before getting over-heating readings. She also told me that the insulation that hit the shuttle was the largest piece to date to hit the shuttle. Hope this answers a couple questions and settles a couple theories...thanks
