Achtung, dude.
Shuttle tiles are distinctive, while thin aluminum is unlikely to have survived a Mach 22 slow-down in the atmosphere. There are also a multitude of crash sites and lots and lots of wreckage out in that area, which contain all kinds of exotic and not-so-exotic metals of various origins. Upon closer read, I see that my point was actually that the searchers might save themselves some trouble by having people with some knowledge of the area and those sites to helpverify and authenticate that any pieces of whatever they might find actually could be shuttle debris. Anyone who's hunted out there and found a chaff pack or a flare knows that a 10-year-old wouldn't know the difference between the two. That was my point. Sorry I didn't make that clearer. Cheers.
