There's no way you can know the _mass_ of an airborne vehicle from a sighting alone. At best (and even that is difficult, especially at night), you can get the _size_.

And regarding large, slow and silent aircraft - well, they are generally called "Blimps" ;-). I don't say that what your friend saw was definitely a lighter-than-air craft, but I'd give a "stealth blimp" a _much_ higher plausibility rating than a reverse-engineered ET craft with an anti-gravity system.
