Here's how "active radar cancellation" works. The best way to describe it is that there are two seperate waves being emitted from the aircraft, a blue and a green. The blue wave (average reflection of radar signal off the aircraft) and the green wave (approximatation of the blue wave emitted by the aircrafts antennas), if these two signals can be matched up perfectly in amplitudes, periods, and phase difference, then the radar will not be able to detect any return signal at all. It's otherwise knows as "wave superposition" called "destructive interference".
