The Freedom Ridge road above the roadblock area at the bottom of the canyon was fairly easily driveable with any high clearance vehicle with all terrain tires using either 2 or 4 wheel drive. Getting over the boulder roadblock was the tricky part of the access - 4WD was desirable there, but I have gone up several times in 2WD. Presently, if you hike past the roadblock, you will run into the boundary about .25 mile beyond in a gorge. There are signs and orange marker posts at the line.
