CBS news reported that the Columbia had been modified for use with the ISS, and it's next flight would be to the ISS. The original Columbia was too heavy for any significant payload, but the modifications were to allow it to be used more like the rest of the fleet.

The NASA server is on overload, so I couldn't bring up your link. [I'm sure NASA servers are really getting hit at this time.]

CBS also reported that the telemetry on the left wing stopped first, indicating that may be where the problem started. It was the left wing that also got hit by insulation on take-off, but nobody is making a connection yet.
