The interesting thing about this plane is they displayed it at the Edwards open house before it's first test flight. That is what makes Edwards the one of the air shows where the static displays are as interesting as the stuff flying. [It was pretty dark in the hanger, but I managed to get a good shot of it.]

Regarding the northern test range, Edwards has sufficient airspace that they shouldn't need the Groom ranges. The fact that this is a NASA project makes using the Groom ranges even less likely.
