I investigated that feature some time ago. It appears to be a STOL
strip that served the mine at one time. A site visit tended to confirm that,
but it was pretty crude. My conclusion was that it hadn't been used
for very many years (well before 1967, at least) due to the maturity
of cactii growing in it.

Don't know about the Viola reference, unless it's the rough center of the
mining district.
