About spies and the KGB etc, the following is in an Air Forces Monthly special publication called X Planes, in a section on Area 51.

About rumours of a Transatomspheric Vehicle (TAV) in the 80's.

"Interestingly, it has recently been disclosed that the MiG-31M and it's Vympel R-37 missile were designed to engage targets cruising at up to mach 6 and 131,250ft (40000m). Development of this system started in the mid-1980s - at about the same time that the traitor Aldrich Ames began spying for the KGB."

For those who don't know, Aldrich Ames was a CIA Case Officer. He begun spying for the KGB, passing on secret documents etc to the KGB in 1985 before being arrested in the US in 1994

Interesting!
