This concept is an exciting one, as there is certainly a capability gap in US bomber ranks between the F-15E and the B-1 at the moment, and it would make a lot of sense to build upon the basic F-22 concept and work previously done of the F-16XL/E proposal.

There has been recent talk that the USAF F-22 order may be culled further from 339 to less than 200, which could make each F-22 end up costing more than $200M each! If this could be supplemented with an ‘FB-22’ order, I’m sure the overall price could be offset somewhat.

Have any of the Edwards area regulars got any further information they can share?

This may be one to watch…
