If anything was travelling at Mach 8, it sure wouldn't be doing it at the altitudes where the airliners fly, so the question isn't really relevant.

The SR-71 would go supersonic at around 30,000 feet, and was only doing Mach 1.2 or so as it transitted these altitudes on its climb to its cruise height of 70 or 80,000 feet. The climb was always timed to coincide with there being little or no other traffic in the vicinity, or commenced in areas where there is no civilian traffic.
