I think image stabalization is a great feature in binoculars. You really can't binoculars steady enough at 12x to read a tail number, but with IS use can use 15x to 18x. The glass used on the canon IS binoculars is very good quality, though not fluorite. For a camera, often the shutter speed is so fast that IS doesn't make much difference.
