I managed to get my star-tac to work while parked at the powerlines using just an external magmount antenna plus phone adapter (about $50). Here is the link from the company where I purchased the hardware:

I got the dual band antenna, though I only managed to get analog (800 MHz) service.

This scheme should work at Tikaboo as well, though you need a ground plane to get the full antena gain. Now if someone would be so kind as to leave a piece of sheet metal 32 inches on a side on top of Tikaboo.....
