I believe the spot you are referring to is a few miles SW of Bishop, Tom
on Coyote Creek Road. It takes about an hour to make it up this rather
bumpy, nasty route, and you climb to maybe 8 or 9 thousand feet.
I forget the precise altitude, but it's up there. In the middle of the
National Forest (actually a high grassy meadow) there is a concrete
strip about 3,000 feet long, and an abandoned aluminum building. You can
wander through it all, it's not fenced. I understand it was used for
high altitude chopper testing. The strip is shown on a number of maps.
Pretty place.
