According to what Hal found (thank you), the info regarding the mystery crash is in reference apparently to the 10/14/87 F-117A crash. (Which begs to ask, where did the "Black Magic" author get the November dates, and was my source accidnetally incorrect or misleading, or is there more to the story).

It is possible that mystery is solved, but the Corsair crash and death of the bandit is still open.
