Yep - Top Gun moved to Fallon from Miramar in 1995 when MCAS El Toro closed and they converted Miramar from a Navy base back to a MCAS (which it was back in the 1950's and 1960's).

Was out there hanging around the perimeter a couple of weeks ago and there were four F-18 squadrons from NAS Lemoore training with the Fallon Navy F-5, F-16 and F-18 Top Gun Adversaries (the Navy calls them Adversaries vs. Aggressors for AF). Lots of activity all day long!!

Was out there around 2003 when they had an entire carrier air group (CAG) training. It was the last year of the F-14. Two mass launches each day with about 80 aircraft each, including the Adversaries. The Navy Adversaries then included F-5's, F-16's, F-18's, F-14's and a few ATAC A-4's that week. It was just awesome to watch!!

Hoping to get out there again later this year for another CAG exercises (if I can find out when)! Same thing for MCAS Yuma for the WTI exercises.

Thanks Thud for additional info!

Rick
