Origins of the red stripe.

First off I'd like to say extremely rude WheresJanet is on an extremely long vacation on Tristan da Cunha. He gives his apologies to members of DLR.


Second- I'd like to share some photos I found of a Westerns Airliner before it was transferred to the operations at 51. In the image on the left you can see "western" faded out in the center of the aircraft above the stripe. Photos were found via Airliners.net. I am sure some of you are familiar with these images and I hope the unfamiliar enjoy as well!
