Let us not forget the thousands of soldiers who participated or were
stationed in Nevada at the time of these above ground nuclear tests in the
1950's. Many men have become sick or died of cancer as a result of their
exposure at the NTS. They were told that there was no danger. The
radioactive cloud did blow away from the test site, usually towards the
sheep farmers of St. George. Army personnel moved into ground zero
usually within a half hour of the detonation. The US Army claimed that a
good brushing with a straw broom and a hot shower would remove any
residual radioactive particles for their bodies.
