The "F" here, as is per-usual at Groom, is for flight test/evaluation, or otherwise ID purposes. I does not
mean specially a fighter type,
it can mean any type operated at Groom, that's smaller
than a large bomber.

The hoaxed photo of three F-111s(but the photo only show two F-111s), by Richard Cliff, has nothing to do with the real aircraft.
