The location and layout of the new hangar and its associated taxiway make it look more like a Scoot-N-Hide/Trim Pad than anything else.

Most significant in the development of the base is the fact that so many hangars have been built over the last 15 years. You don't invest in such projects unless you need more hangar space. It is unlikely that they would leave perfectly good older hangars sitting empty, and I doubt that they are just being used for storage. Also, building new hangars has unintended consequences. First, it draws attention from interested spectators (like us). Second, it eats up valuable real estate. At some point, sooner rather than later, they will reach a point where they will have to start demolishing older buildings if they wish to build new ones. USAF regulations impose a strict limit on total square footage even if the base has vast amounts of open land available.
