The A-10 cannot directly deploy straight to the Middle East due to it's slow/lack of--speed. Crew duty day limits make several stops mandatory. My F-16 unit did a Hill-Lajes-Kuwait hop while the A-10s from Eielson did something like Kuwait-Sigonella/Avianno-Lajes/Gander(maybe)/Langley/Mt Home/Eielson.
