Achieving a laminar flow would prevent the leading edge compression shockwaves and should also help with the trailing edge shock wave--I don't advocate to old NASA holes in the wing concept, but the idea put forth on www.fas.org some time ago could work--ejecting a plasma ahead of an aircraft--probe on the nose--such that the plasma would achieve a laminar flow around most (not all) of the drag-producing areas of the airframe. alieviating the drag should take care of the compression shockwaves.
