Not surprising that a Combatant Commander with a proven, known asset in hand that meets his needs is skeptical about any replacement. He has access to the classified details of both planes' capabilities/limitations so his opinion should bear weight. If the Global were better or even as good right now, I don't see him turning down 30+ hours of coverage per flight versus much less than that due to the largely pilot limited endurance of the the U2.
