Not all of the hangars are occupied by aircraft. Some have been converted to ad-hoc office space, vehicle/equipment maintanence shops, tool storage, storage of misc. old base relics, final assembly tooling jigs/fixtures, and of course there are hangars specifically allocated for maintenance of certain airframes, as well as certain hangars that are specific to some contractors operations (i.e., Northrop, Boeing, Lockheed, and others).

Keep in mind that this is a pretty self-sustaining base... Therefore, a good majority of any maintenance on any equipment, vehicles, or facilities, that would typically be outsourced to local shops, is done for the most part there, on-base. So a lot of that would be carried out in a shop, or in this case a hangar, since summer temps can be well over 100°, and winter temps that are below freezing with snow.
