All Marine combat squadrons have a VFMA or VFMAT prefix. Basically it stands for Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron. Yeah, I know MFATS isn't the same as VFMAT...go figure! Apparently the 'V' stands for 'Squadron'.

That would possibly make this an F/A-18B if this is a training unit. The F/A-18Ds are used in a 'Night Attack' and precision strike role.
