Site 9 is now home to the NASA Airborne Science aircraft fleet. The Dryden Aircraft Operations Facility (DAOF), as it is known, is the base for the Stratospheric Observatory For Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA), DC-8 flying laboratory, ER-2, etc., and the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (N911NA) was parked there for use as a spare parts bird.
