You can get some good aircraft takeoff or landing shots off either end of the runway from off base. If you can get on base, don't miss the row of "fighters on pegs." They're to the right after going in the main gate. Also, the Thunderbirds museum is there.

While there, go across the street to Las Vegas Motor Speedway and drive the NASCAR race cars. 150 mph while following the instructor around the track is a real blast! You'll be happy even if you don't see a plane! :-) I did it for my 60th birthday.

I landed an F-105G at Nellis once at about 260 mph when the flaps wouldn't come down. Normal is 220. Of course, I didn't have to turn and just spent the next two miles getting stopped. The race car is less exciting, but a lot longer and more fun!
