I used to work with full spectrum Metal Halide lights in the entertainment business. One job I used to do is to focus these intense lights on cars for autoshows, etc. This would require me to stare directly into this intense light and have the stagehand tip and rotate the fixture until the hot spot is right in your eyes. After about a hundred lights my eyes would be burned with that everlasting green dot and I would have a headache that lasted the rest of the day. It didn't take long for us to go buy replacement welding filters to sheild our eyes with. You can get them at Sears in the tool section for a couple of bucks. You want a Lincoln Electric , Glass Filter plate #10. I still have mine in my tool box so I'm ready to go!
