OT: Solar Eclipse

Message posted by Peter Merlin on May 06, 2012 at 8:43:48 PST:

There will be an annular ("Ring of Fire") solar eclipse on the afternoon of May 20. The path of totality crosses parts of Northern California, Central Nevada, SW Utah, Northern Arizona, New Mexico, and West Texas.

In Rachel, Nevada, totality will last 3 minutes, 45 seconds. Elsewhere, along the central line of the path, it will last more than four and a half minutes.

The eclipse should only be viewed through an appropriate solar filter, such as welder's glass, etc., or using a pinhole projector.
