You can get behind basecamp by taking the road just east of the main road that goes through the base. [I'm not sure of the labele, but the sign may be Hot Creek.] The road loops around, so getting in position without driving through the base is possible, but there is still the dust storm made by your vehicle, and the ranchers will see you. And are those guys really ranchers, or secret base workers, or even space aliens!

You could observe from the road going up Haligan Mesa, but the basecamp workers go to the comunication sites, so your cover would be blown.

If you look at the basecamp photos, there is a small astronomy hut, so do they check for satellites spying on the Groom Lake or do they have an astronomy club? There is a nice HF antenna, so do they use the global high frequency system (GHFS), or is there a HAM club there? Basecamp could be totally boring, or performing tasks not possible at Groom Lake.

Has anyone seen a vehicle drive into the base? You drive to basecamp and it is just there. Period. No one entering or leaving except for the occasional plane. How about the big white trucks? Do they stop there?

The lack of activity is part of the mystery.
