When spotting this kind of stuff, altitude is very important. If you look at the X33 photos on my web site, you can't see the bomb sites, yet they are very clear on the terraserver.

I want to explore the area beyond Stinking Spring as that is where the ghost town is supposed to be. Did you reach it?
