It may have been an optical illusion. Once, when an F-117A flew directly over me near Edwards, it looked like it was about twice the normal size. It really wasn't any bigger, but something about the atmospheric conditions (low, thin clouds, etc.) just made it look about the size of a B-1. It was actually flying low, but appeared to be higher than it was.
