You can retrofit the UAV electronics to just about any RC airplane or helicopter ans save a lot of money. I built one about two years ago for doing research towards my PhD. I used this for my airframe.

I'm building another one from scratch that's a flying wing design. That should give me more time in the air vs. that powered kite. All together I spent around $1000 building it myself. The only thing not included in that price was the notebook computer to use for the ground station which I already had.
