It seems that the military industrial complex (Eisenhower was right)really has no multi-generational knowledge retention and is forced to re-learn over and over again. As proof; at the end of the Civil War, The Spanish-American war, WWI, WWII, Korea and Desert Storm the American GI found (through experience) that the best combat boot was brown, rough-side out. In the intervening years the Pentagon has always moved always to something that can be spit-shined. It is like an art form that MUST be passed on.

TD I love the energizer battery analogy as you are right; pretty soon it will not be the mano-a-mano dogfight with guys like Chuck Yeager, Bob Anderson or Boots Blesse but geek-vs-geek UAV showdowns. Although I marvel at the unintended irony of TV commercials encouraging kids to "play" football or tennis on their wii instead of tossing them a racket or ball and saying "hey go outside and play" with their friends, it may be our cultural salvation as by the time they grab the controls of their UAV they will already have thousands of hours of stick time!
