Great story! I saw an SR-71 at the Chicago Lakefront airshow back around 1982. It was raining, and kind of miserable weather, but the SR-71 still did the fly-by as scheduled. It was actually a last minute addition to the show as it was on a mission (they said anyway) up to Nova Scotia and happened to be traveling right over Chicago at the time of the airshow. So in a way, so to speak, they talked it down for the show!! The plane came down out of the low, dark cloud cover just long enough so you could see it do one pass. I also have a couple of (very bad) pictures with my old Kodak 110 Instamatic. But I guess no pictures are "bad" of an SR-71 flying by, especially over downtown Chicago!
