Sadly, new regulations require scrap items to be "de-milled" (demilitarized) before sale. Consequently, a lot of nice artifacts are destroyed. The SR-71 spares that had been stored in a couple of warehouses near Barstow were run through an industrial shredder. The same thing happened to the B-2 that crashed on Guam and the disassembled B53 nuclear bomb casings.
